Felt Christmas Tree Garland

Felt Christmas Tree Garland

This Felt Christmas Tree Garland is very easy to make and looks beautiful hanging on a mantle, window, or shelf.

Christmas is a little over a month away! Can you believe it?! I certainly cannot, this year seems to have flown by!

I usually do not put up our Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving but this year for some reason my son insisted we put our decorations up early, now who can refuse a 5-year-old?! So we pulled out all our decorations and it definitely feels like Christmas around here. Do you put up your Christmas decorations so early? I would love to know if you do!

This garland is something you can make and use for years to come. Instead of spending money on something readymade, DIY this garland (this probably cost me less than $5!) You will certainly hang this garland up with pride and use it year after year!

HOW DO YOU MAKE THIS FELT CHRISTMAS TREE GARLAND?

Make a template of the 2 Christmas tree shapes out of cardboard. I just drew them out by hand, but you can find a template here.

I chose 2 types of trees, Cut 8 trees of each type out of the felt, that is a total of 16. It depends on how long you want your garland. The one that I made is 55 inches long.

On one of the felt shapes, you can embroider little snowflakes. Or any design you wish. I embroidered little snowflakes using white thread.

Next, you stitch your trees together using blanket stitch. Here is a YouTube video by Red Ted Art showing how to do the blanket stitch. I used a similar color thread. If you wish you can use a contrasting color as well.

Do this with all the 16 pieces so you get 8 trees, 4 of each type.

To make them into a garland I cut one long piece of jute string (55 inches). Then cut small pieces of jute string to make a loop at the back of the trees using a hot glue gun just like you see in the picture below.

Put all your trees onto the long string. Then hang up your garland and move the trees around to your liking.

That’s it! A simple and cute Christmas Tree Felt Garland!

NOTES:

The garland can be adjusted to any size by adding or reducing the number of trees and string.

An alternative to stitching the 2 trees together is using hot glue. But stitching them together gives it a nice look.

You can change the color of the trees to match your Christmas colors.

To hang the garland I use packing tape as it is much stronger than regular cello tape or scotch tape.

Another option is that you could use some ribbon instead of string to hang your garland.

With Christmas coming soon, you can make yourself this cute felt garland to decorate your home. It is simple and will brighten up any corner of your home!
